The best way to protect your credit is by keeping good tabs on it. Make sure you get your credit reports at least once a year and examine them for accuracy and irregularities. The three main credit bureaus are: Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union. All of them have sites online that explain how to get your reports.

If you think someone is using your credit card fraudulently, you should call your credit card issuer and report your card lost/stolen. They will issue you a new account. Be sure to go over the charges for the past month or so with them and dispute any charges that are fraudulent.

If someone is fraudulently using your identity in order to obtain credit, you should report this to the FTC. They have a website with some great information.

Hope this helps,
