I'm a 20 year old student with a part time job. I guess I have good credit. I share a platinum account with my mom and I also have debit and other dept. store cards. But I need to get another card with at least a $5000 limit on my own so that I can fix my car. I plan to pay the card off within a year. My questions are what card I should apply for. Will I be approved? How long will it take to actually get the card? Should I have someone co-sign with me? And what would be the fastest way to get the approval (online, mail-in, etc..)
thank you

Are you an authorized user on your moms account or did she co-sign for the card? You may want to make sure that you are in fact building a credit history. If you are not legally responsible for paying an account I don't believe you are in fact building a credit history. Also, I don't believe you can get a $5000 limit from one card on your own. You will probably need to get more than 1 card unless you have a co-signer.

If you try for a card with a customized APR, many times you will have a better chance of being accepted. (ARIA & NEXTCARD both have customized credit cards)
You could also try for a student card. Since you are a student you should not have a problem being accepted, although the credit line may be limited.

Applying online is typically faster. Although, you do have to wait for the card to arrive in the mail (typically 1 to 4 weeks),
