I am looking for a statement format that catagorizes purchases such as gas, groceries, department stores. How do I do a search by statement?

I am not sure if you can "search" by that type of information, but here's a suggestion: try signing up for a card that will allow you to download financial transactions to your money management software (e.g. Microsoft Money, Quicken, Moneydance or something similar). Then you'll be able to import, sort and look at your statement/transactions any way you want. Of course, you can print it out, too.

Pretty much all cards now offer online accounts with downloadable statements.
