My dad died last friday, and he had £3000 on his barclay card.
Is my mother now responsible for paying this off?? or does it get wiped off

You might have to consult a lawyer. Getting banks to cancel the debt is known to be tricky (at least in the US).

BTW, does anybody in the UK know what happens in this situation?
