Topic rebuilding credit equifax score of 574. Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By Umpadu On 01/12/03

After 10 years of my wife handling bills I discovered that my credit had been wrecked. Late or no payments and no less than 6 collections on my credit report. After taking over and 4 months of on-time payments my score is still only 574. I have a company credit card so I have never, up to this point needed a card. (Just used the business card) My business card can no longer be used, (new policy is business use only) so I need a good card. High interest is ok because I will pay it off monthly. Can you help with a good card?

it sounds like you might have to settle not only for a high interest rate, but an annual fee as well. Late fees and collections will stay on your credit report for several years.

If you simply want to have a card for day-to-day purchases, I'd look into getting a secured product such as Orchard bank's secured card. I am sure after a year or so they'll offer you an "upgrade".

What score are they looking for to be approved.

I believe the minimum score requirements for the secured product by Orchard Bank are very relaxed to say the least. They also accept people who haven't started building their credit history yet. I am not sure there's a minimum score.
