Hi,
I want to get a credit card but no one will give me one (I tried to get a VISA I think it was and a WALMART credit card). I keep getting denied because I have "insufficient credit history on file." I have never had a credit card before so my recent attempts were my first ones ever. I have a checking account and have never bounced a check and I have a clean record as far as bill paying goes- never missed one yet. I contacted Walmart again after the rejection and asked them if I could get a credit card if I got a cosigner (ie.my Mom, who has an excellent credit history) but they said they do not except cosigners. So what do I do now? How can I get a credit card? Any info much appreciated.

consider getting a secured card.

or, if you're a student, apply for a student card.
applying for a card like Chase WALMART is just unrealistic. you're not going to be approved for ANYTHING with this kind of terms (10.99%) - it's for people with good (and long) credit histories.

my recommendation:
a) student cards
b) if it doesn't work, secured or "for new credit" cards

OK, what is a "secured" card? I've never heard of that before. And where would I go to get it? I am way past my college days so I imagine I cannot get the "student card,"whatever that is. I didn't see any links in your post and nothing on the left margin (ie. next to the posting area) where there are some links, had any useful info- what links are you referring to?

"secured" card is one where you deposit your own money and start spending whatever you deposited. so, it's not a credit card per se, however YOU DO ESTABLISH YOUR CREDIT HISTORY with it.

At certain point you can either convert the card to "unsecured" (i.e. with a real credit line) or simply apply for a new card.

You can find some cards like that by
