Topic Another College Kid Wanting Help! Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

Alright,
I've got a savings and checking account. I'm now in college and having a hard time establishing credit. I've tried getting store cards but they tell me I need credit, I haven't applied for a card because I know its bad if I get turned down. I don't think I have any credit history at all. Is there something my bank can do for me to help me with this? What does it mean to have the band issue me a line of credit?

Hopelessly Frustraited....

the "line of credit" usually comes in the form of "overdraft protection". ask your bank if they can give you that service.

there's usually an annual fee, but one that's typically low - like $9.95 per year. Overdraft protection service SHOULD start your credit history reporting (again, verify that)

another option is just try applying for a card - i got mine with a $800 line when i was in college and had no credit history whatsoever

P.S. I should note that you should ONLY apply for student cards. I got mine from chase with $800 of unsecured credit line (but that was many years ago). I still have it! And that's why banks love students - they tend to stick to their first cards.
