i just turned 18 and i want to get my credit going on a good note. i was dumb and applied for a few credit cards without any credit at all. ive heard that denied credit cards stay on your record and im sure that will hurt me in some way. i am going to open up a banking and checking account today and i am trying to figure out anything else i can do to help my credit out. any suggestions for credit cards that would be good for a new comer like myself. help with any of these subjects would be much appreciated.

Curtis,

Your best bet is to ask your bank for a credit line, even if it is 300.00 dollars. If they authorize the approval, use the card and never spend more than 50% of your limit and always pay it down at the end of the month. After you have used and paid this card on time for three months, then you can apply for your other cards.

The average american has eight credit cards, I suggest having two merhcant cards like a Capital One Visa or a Mastercard will do just fine. Also, it is wise to have a couple of department store cards as well. Your credit score will be much higher if you have a variety of credit showing on your report.

Sincerely,

Will
