Topic I'd like to establish credit Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

Hi, I'm 19 yrs. old, and I'd really like to start establishing credit for my future. I've applied for a credit card at my bank, and about 4 or 5 different retail stores. They all turn me down because I don't have any credit. I have a savings and a checking account, I don't go to college, and I work full time. Also, I wasn't aware that when you apply for a card and you get declined, that it shows up on your credit history. Is that true all of the time?

Very frustrated

Can someone please answer my questions? I'd really appreciate it.

yes, all your applications show up as "hard" inquiries on your report. credit card companies don't like to see too many of them, because it makes it seem you're desperate for credit.

your best option, in my opionion, is to wait a few months and then either apply for a card throught the bank you have your checking/savings accounts at OR apply for a secured card.
