I am new to the USA. I have been here for three months, have a SSN, and a checking account and am earning a pretty decent income, pay all my bills on time. However i have been absolutely unsucessful in getting a credit card. In the past 3 months i have been rejected by two institutions - AmEx, Discovery on the grounds in insufficient credit history. What do i do ??? How do i go about establishing a credit history ? And is there any way i can get a credit card asap ?

You could try for a Nextcard Visa or an Aria Visa, both issuers customize a credit card offer to match your credit history. Since you have a checking account, another option would be try to leverage your relationship with that bank and apply for a credit card through them. Keep in mind that if you are turned down for numerous credit cards in a short period of time, your credit rating can be temporarily hurt. Good Luck.
