I have several credit cards with a total of about $15.000 in credit limit that I have built within past 3 years. I applied for City bank credit card recently and received a letter in mail that they can not process my application I guess because my name on the offer that they have sent me is different than my real name (one letter is missing on their application). They want me to send them the copy of the last utility bill as a proof of my address so that they could process my application. In case my name does not appear on the utility bill, which is the case, I should send them a copy of both sides of my driver's license as well as copy of my social security number. I am concerned that somebody could take an advantage of all submitted informations. Is this procedure usual or should I just give up on City bank credit card?

That sounds strange that Citibank would ask for you to go through this effort. Why not just forget about this offer and call up Citi to apply for a card?

I did respond on their credit card offer on the first place and after that they have send me the letter asking me for SSN and driver licence copy. SOmebody has mispeled my first name when I have applied for credit card couple of years ago so it was wrongly reported to Equifax. I know that because I have a copy of my credit report. The question is if someone in Citi bank who get hold of the copy of my SSN and Drivers licence could take advantage of it. Thank you.

If Equifax has incorrect information, then you should make sure your file is corrected. You do not want to have confusion each time you apply for a credit card or anything else that requires a credit check.
