I have recently applied for 5 credit cards because I wanted to make sure I got one. What happens if I get more than one? Can I just cancel all the ones I don't want? Will this hurt my credit history?

It is not a good idea to apply for a number of credit cards in a short period of time. This actually hurts your chances of being accepted, the credit card issuers feel that this may indicate you are desperate for credit.

You can cancel any cards that you do not want to keep. I recommend that you do so in writing. Good Luck.

Always research the card and be sure that your credit history matches their criteria. When you apply for several cards all in the same time frame, this puts inquiries on your credit report which is NOT GOOD. I have learned from my own personal experience that inquiries lower your overall score by around 10 points. So, be careful and good luck!
