Hello everyone. I am writing this post in search of an answer, which hopefully will be forthcoming from anyone that reads this. I am 20 years old with seven months at my occupation (telemarketer for a company contracted out through Citi/AT&T). I believe I make approximately $12K/year. I am not attending college at the present time, but with any luck, I hope to go next fall. I am currently saving up money for a vehicle, which, with any luck, I should be able to purchase within the next six months or so (providing I can find a second job).

Now I'm trying to find a card that would suit my needs. I don't plan to carry a balance, for I am considering applying for a credit card with the sole intent of establishing my credit. I'm not too hepped on the idea of exorbitant annual fees, though I'm well aware there's not much else available to a first time card holder. Can anyone suggest a card that would suit my purpose? Plus, I would like to know if it would be wise to get a card before or after purchasing my next vehicle, due in part to the credit inquiries and whatnot. Thanks a bunch for any responses you may have.

Check out the Household Platinum card in the browse section of http://www.creditcardmenu.com. Most cards have a minimum income requirement higher than $12,000, however this is card requires exactly $12,000. Also, you can establish credit by applying for a retail card such as Filenes or Walmart etc... Hope this helps.

Actually purchasing your car will be a very good thing if you are doing this thru a loan program. Some of the things to look for and especially if part of your intent is to build your credit, if the car is dealer financed make sure that they are reporting to the credit beuruea as this will establish a Tradeline( trade lines are open lines of Credit) and will give a credit issuer an idea of what to expect. As an example, I work for Discover Financial Discover card looks for at least 2 open active trade lines in reviewing an aplication for approval, With the exception of the Discover Student card.
