I have had the same credit card for over 10 years. I was waiting for it's renewal this month and was surprised to recieve not only a new card, but a different brand and account number. I prefered to stay with the original, can banks do this with out informing you before your card expires? I would like to go back to my original card.

Barb - I have a few questions. Are the terms such as APR, Annual fee etc the same on the new card? I would recommend that you call Citibank and simply ask for a Visa card. Also, I am curious why you prefer Visa over Mastercard, they are almost always accepted at the same places?

The terms of the new card appear to be the same, as near as I can tell, without comparing the "small print" word for word. The reason I prefer the original card over the other is that "almost" factor you mentioned. I noticed, at the Olympics,"Visa is the only card" they accept. Not that I have any plans to go there, but why spend all that money on advertising such if it's not so ? Are there other situations one might run into where MasterCard would be unacceptable?

Typically Mastercard & Visa are accepted at the same places. You are definitely correct, Visa managed to get an exclusive arrangement for the Olympics, but this is not the usual case. I would suggest asking the issuer for a Visa card or sign-up for a new Visa card. A good mix of credit cards to carry is probably: 1 Visa, 1 MasterCard and 1 American Express.
Take a look in the "browse" section of Creditcardmenu.com if you decide to expand your cards.
Good Luck. Colin
