I dont have any credit cards yet but would like to build a good credit line. How do I go about doing that?

I need a little more info to answer this question.
Are you a full time student? Do you have a stable job? Are you 18+?

Thanks,
colin

I work full time, am 19 years old and am a part time student in college.

This is a good time to start building a credit history. The Discover Student card and many others require you to be a full time student, however the Capital One student card appears to not have this limitation. Check it out in the browse section of this site. Also, remember once you have a credit card.
- Always pay the bill on time
&
- Make sure you can afford what your purchasing

Let me know how you make out.

You can also establish credit by getting a store credit card and asking your bank to establish an overdraft credit line on your checking account. Make sure that both report to the credit bureau(s)

You need a Social Security Number to apply for a credit card issued by a US card issuer. Once you have a SSN, you may want to try and obtain your first credit card through FLeet since you have a banking history with them.

Hi I'm a international student. I would like to apply for a credit card. "No credit history" is my problem as well. I have tried several stores - no luck so far. Do you have any suggestions? Do you know of any stores that do not require any history or a reference. Other questions ... how can I establish an overdraft on my ckecking account?
by another guy On 01/16/2002
you just need to talk to a representative at the bank where you have your checking account. some banks may not have his service, but most do. just ask about their "overdraft protection line".

P.S. it may cost you something like $10-$15 per year for this service

Actual Colin with this individuals Resident visa card # it is possible to apply and be excepted for a discover card, Most resident aliens will not have a ssn but if you sub the resident alien # with the ssn it will work about the same way and eliminate the problem of no ssn

What is a "resident alien" # ??? Does it have anything to do with a green card?

Usually, "green card" is MUCH more difficult to obtain than a Social Security Number. Did you possibly mean "Tax ID"?
by donnie On 01/16/2002
yes it is the # on a green card, also could use a tax id # hadn't thought of that
