is Master Card & EuroCard are one and the same or not ?
the Cyber Source supporting it as MC/EC or both entities seperately ?

By colin On 01/04/02

It sounds as though Eurocard-MasterCard go together as far as credit card payment processing.
Here is what I found:
"The European Eurocard-MasterCard ATM network has over 277,800 cash machines"

Thanks for the info Mr.Colin, so, the EC obviously in alliance with the MC , in otherwords, MC supporting EC; right ?

and i got struck with the ambiguity when i came across <MC/EC> (considered as a same entity) somewhere on the net and <MC and EC> (as two different entities) at some other places, and, thus i'm confused as to how CyberSOurce is processing this MC and EC ? and so how MasterCard is processing this ?

Thanks in advance,
Aparna

I am not really sure how this relationship is structured, but as you know in the US the MC/Visa logos are shown together in many merchants windows etc even though they are separate organizations. When a merchant signs up to accept credit cards they typically are given the option to accept Mastercard/Visa together, Amex, Discover, etc.. I assume that this is a similar arrangement with Mastercard/EC.

Thanks for the info, Mr.Colin, but, i'm clarified with the way MC and EC are processed by the 3rd party creditcard processing solution Providers , but, i'm still left with with some other doubt;

could u pl. clarify me as to from which company (i mean the credit card service provider) this EuroCard is originating actually ?! since how long, is this EC there in the market ? can u give me the company name , so that i could search for further info?

aparna - at one point, i was wondering about this too... i think EuroCard is a trademark of Europay International. they have many websites, but you can look at
>http://www.eurocard.com/

Here's what they say about their MC relationship:

====[ QUOTE ]====

What is Europay’s relationship with MasterCard International?

We have a long-standing strategic alliance with MasterCard International which began in the mid 1960’s, and which was renewed in the form of two, new agreements for the credit and debit sides of the business. These Agreements, among other things, give Europay exclusive licensing rights for MasterCard brands – MasterCard, Cirrus and Maestro (which both Europay International/Mastercard International own) – in Europe and make it responsible for the brands’ European marketing and transaction processing
