card verification is typically used as a method to confirm the identity of a person. What does Cw stand for?

it's usually a number on the back of the card, right next to where you sign. usually only the last 3 digits are required (it may have more).

the purpose here is to ensure you are actually holding a real card in your hands, not looking at a copy of somebody's receipt.
