I am going to France next Friday I have just been told that I should bring a credit card and not travil checks is there anything such as a prepaid credit card?

If you have an ATM (debit) card with Visa/MC symbols, you could simply bring that. Besides that the closest thing to a "prepaid" card is what's called a "secured card". Unless your credit is really bad or non-existent, I wouldn't recommend getting anything like that. In any case, you have too little time before Friday to apply for a real credit card. So, my personal opinion - go with a bank (debit) card.
