I just read some messages written by other people whose situations are similar to mine. I am currently an international student in the U.S. I have a visa gold card issued in Japan, and am paying bills with it. However, because those bills are charged from a bank in Japan by converting dollar into yen, it is unreasonable for me. Therefore, I would like to have an another card in the U.S. The problem is that although I have a gold card holder who has a good credit history in Japan, it will not be valid in the U.S. Also, I don't have a SSN and a job. I will graduate from college in May next, and might go back to Japan after that. Do you have any idea to get a new card and do I still need to get a SSN for it? Thank you.

Since you are a student, you should try applying for a card specifically designed for students. The parameters for approval are different. Check out the browse menu for some banks that offer student cards. Some companies will take an application without a social security number.
