Topic No Job, Need a Card
Is it possible to get a card if you are not currently employeed? Here's the deal, I want to go to a trade school for a 4 week program. I need the card to make a downpayment for my tuition. The school offers job placement and I will probably get a good job making great money as soon as I leave. What can I do?
Do you currently have a credit card? If so, you may want to ask for a credit increase, keep in mind that you will still need to make minimum payments before you land a full time job. Also,
does the trade school offer financial aid in the form of loans?
No, I do not currently have a card. The school does have a loan program, but it has 20.99% interest over a 10-year pay out! The terms of the loan are generic, everyone has the same interest regardless of credit. I am trying to avoid paying twice the principle in interest charges. That is why I am looking for a card to make a "down payment" on.
You may want to speak with a loan officer at your bank about additional loan options. Also, if you have someone who can co-sign for a low interest credit card that may be a good option. Are the interest charges paid up front on the school loan before you start reducing the principal?
