We have had Continental VISA platinum for a number of years. Today they told me we can't keep our old account # (it took me a year to memorize the #), we have been issued a new number. We have excellent credit and would like to know what other card you recommend. We charge around $7000/mo and pay in full each month. Would like to earn points on various airlines. Is the Discover card accepted in Italy?

Discover is not widely accepted outside the US. You're better off staying with a MasterCard or Visa.
Capital One has a card called MilesOne that offers miles you can use on any airline. You may want to check it out.
