I paid for a service with a credit card and found out that what I received was not what I had agreed to. Eight days after the purchase I contacted the credit card company and put the transaction into dispute. What assistance can I expect from the CC company and will the charges be "cancelled"? I have documented everything and have an ex-employee of the seller who can verify that what I bought, I didn't get.

Have you tried to work out this dispute with the vendor? Most issuers will expect you to try that first.
Each issuer has a department that investigates disputes. Filing your dispute by phone does not protect you under law, you must file it in writing within 60 days. The credit issuer has 30 days to repond to your dispute. While your dispute is being investigated, you will not be responsible for paying the disputed charge or any interest that may accrue on it.
