Topic Under age 21 and need credit card Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By Tracy On 06/07/01

I am a 20 year old female living on my own in NYC (actress/model) I have my own bank account but I was only offered an ATM card not a bank card or bank/credit card.

How can I obtain my own credit card ?

My parent(s) will gladly co-sign.

In fact I would like my Mother to be a co-user of the card so that her purchases and prompt payment when she uses the card will quickly establish me with an excellent credit rating

As long as you're 18 or over you can obtain a Visa or MasterCard (or Discover or American Express for that matter) in your own name. This is the ideal way to establish credit.

If you don't have any other credit yet, check out the "browse" section of this site for recommendations on cards for those seeking to establish credit.

Be sure to pay your bills on time and you'll be well on your way to building a positive credit record for yourself.
