Topic Free cash from ATM while traveling? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

"Free" cash from ATM while traveling? Yeah. Don't leave home without overpaying your credit-card account so that it has a credit balance (say $600), then call the toll-free number on your card and tell their Security Department what you have done. Then, on your trip make "cash-advance withdrawals" at any ATMs when you want to. Any problems?

Why not just withdraw money at an ATM directly from your bank account? If you make cash advances you incur cash advance fees which are a % of the transaction with a minimum of $3 to $4 (more than the typical non-network ATM fee)

You will still get charged a cash advance fee. Credit cards cannot be used like stored value cards.
