I have recently been trying to get a credit card. Every one of them has turned me down for "insufficient credit history". I have a savings and checking account, all the bills are in my name and are paid on time if not early. How am I supposed to establish credit otherwise? I have never had any kind of "credit" problems. I AM EVEN GETTING TURNED DOWN FOR CREDIT CARDS THAT I HAVEN'T APPLIED FOR. Also, does it hinder your credit if you request a copy of your credit report? Thanks.

If you request your credit report you will not hurt your credit history. In fact if you have been turned down for credit you can receive one for free. It is only when creditors look at your credit history can your credit be adversely affected. That is why it is not recommended to apply for a bunch of cards in a short period of time if you are being turned down. Have you looked at the cards under "cards for new or damaged credit" in the browse section of this site? http://www.creditcardmenu.com Check out the Aria and Nextcard products, these cards offer customized terms based on your history.

I have applied to those credit cards that you mentioned and have been turned down for both. Thank you.

Maybe you should look at some secured credit card products and some store credit cards (Macy's, Sears etc) to start building your history.
