I have applied twice for a "pre-approved" college credit card (different ones) and have been turned down. I have a savings account and checking account, but can't get a store credit card either. What can I do to establish some good credit?

First thing you want to do is figure out why this is happening. Order a credit report (there's a link to icredit from the related services page of this site) and see if everything there is correct.
Second, if you have any college loans, you can put them as income on the credit card application form. That will boost your rating.

Third, I just wanted to share my experience - when I was in college, I got $300 overdraft protection from Bank Boston (formerly Bay Bank) and it did show up as credit line on my report. The cost was $10 for a year. Ask your bank if they report overdraft protection as line of credit and if they do, be sure to get it.

I hope this helps...

Hey.. I just wanted to add that if you are rejected, issuers are required to tell you why. Also, some college products are available only to students of 4 year programs, if you go to a 2 year college you can't apply for all student cards. Worse case scenario you could get a co-signer to obtain a credit card.
