Topic Increasing Credit Line Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

How do I increase my credit line w/o hurting my credit? I have excellent credit and good income history (12+yrs) but most of the companies we've been working with lately will only let you go to $20,000 max. We have 7 visa's with credit limits of 10K-20K and we would prefer only 2-3 with 40-50K limits. I believe it's a game credit card companies play -- they never know what you will qualify for until after they've done an inquiry and too many inquiries hurt your credit (I've had 25 in the last 6 months and still haven't found the right cards). Any suggestions?

It sounds as though you want tohave 2 to 3 cards with higher credit limits. Approximately what are your balances on the 7 existing cards? If the balances are not very high, you should think about consolidating on fewer cards. The fact that you have that many cards with 10 to $20,000 for credit limits means that you have a alot of available credit which may make issuer uneasy about extending a $30,000 to $50,000 credit limit. Talk to your existing issuers and see who would consider raising your credit line. You can cancel the other accounts that you don't want to keep.
