Topic Bal. Transfer non-USA card to USA card Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By Wendy Scott On 02/09/01

I have debts on 2 credit cards I acquired while living in England. I want to transfer the balances (in English Sterling Pounds) to American credit cards at a low APR % in dollars.

Who can help???

This is an interesting question. :)

The way this would work is this: You need to find out from your English cards if they would accept payment in US Dollars, and if so, do they have a US address that can be used. If the answer is yes to these questions, the transaction should be able to go through with the help of Visa or MasterCard International.

I would suggest dealing with an issuer who has some international presence such as American Express or MBNA. Query the issuer in advance to be sure arrangements can be made for this unusual transaction. You will, of course, first have to be approved for a card.

Alternatively, you use an access check on your US account and convert the funds into Pounds Sterling yourself and pay off your English account with an international money order or ach bank exchange.

Hope this helps,
