Topic Will I hurt my credit? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By Beth Regs On 02/07/01

I'm a college student and I JUST got my 3rd credit card with an intro 0% APR to pay for a plane ticket for my spring break. I wanted to get another similar card (0%APR) to have with me when I go on my trip for emergencies. The reason I need another card is b/c I left 2 of my other cards at home since the APR's are rather high. I also don't want to bring my newest card with me since I've already paid for the ticket with it. I always make my payments on time and I have a job so making the payments is never a problem for me. I guess what I need to know is if it's too soon to get another card since I just got one. Also,if I do apply will it hurt my credit/credit rating if I get denied. I know asking the bank to increase the limit on the card is an option, but is it too soon since I haven't even gotten the first bill yet? What should I do?! Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi again. If you are rejected for a number of cards in a short period of time this can certainly have an adverse effect on your ability to obtain credit. However, it sounds like you are financially responsible and as long as you are organized enough to pay your bills on time + you have the means to pay, you should be on your way to building a good credit history.
